Our story

From New York to Galway

Empathy Jam began in New York. After attending in 2017, Diarmaid Ó Fátharta saw the potential for a Galway event where empathy could be practised and applied.

Together with University of Galway academics Mairéad Hogan and Karen Young, he connected academia and Galway's technology community. The first Galway jam took place in 2018 and has kept evolving ever since.

After virtual events during the pandemic, the community is gathering in person again on Saturday 7 November 2026.
